Olomouc Commandry
The Olomouc Commandry of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem had its ceremonial investiture in St. Wenceslas Church in Olomouc on Sunday, 12 July 2009.
Members: Prof. PhDr. Miloš Trapl, CSc., Prof. PhDr. Jana Burešová, CSc., doc. Dr. Wilken Engelbrecht, cand. litt., PhDr. Petr Pořízka, PhD., MUDr. Yvona Hrčková, Libor Gašparovič.
Prof. PhDr. Miloš Trapl, CSc., is currently the Commander; Prof. PhDr. Jana Burešová, CSc., is the Vice Commander; and Libor Gašparovič is the Secretary.
Since its establishment, the Commandry has tried to acquire spaces and funds to begin its work. It received the first contribution of CZK 10,000 from Prostějov Commandry, operating successfully for many years.
In 2011, following many rounds of talks with representatives of military circles and the Statutory City of Olomouc concerning the provision of working rooms, we gained approval to locate the headquarters of the Commandry inside the then-municipal building on Opletalova street in Olomouc, in the rooms of the Galia Agency, whose director is L. Gašparovič.
In addition to holding meetings, the Commandry members participate in sessions of the entire Moravian-Silesian Bailiwick in Prostějov and the regular ceremonial concerts for the needy in Prostějov. They have also participated in a spring consecration ceremony with Archbishop Jan Graubner in Slatinice spa and other locations, and in activities of some other orders, such as the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem (Teutonic Knights) at Bouzov castle. The Commandry has also co-organized popular scientific lectures, such as one by Commander M. Trapl on St. Wenceslas’ Day, on prominent Catholic politicians Msgre Jan Šrámek and JUDr. Mořic Hruban, and on Olomouc Archbishop Antonín Cyril Stojan.
The Saint Lazarus Commandry received a financial donation from the Head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, Army General Ing. Vlastimil Picek, and the Director of the Galia Agency, Libor Gašparovič. The Commandry manager accepted the donation cheque at a ceremonial concert of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic in Olomouc on 12 May 2011.
Commandry members have developed statutes for the civic association “Saint Lazarus Commandry of Olomouc”, the main objective of which is to organize volunteer and non-profit charity work, chiefly in the social and cultural spheres. The statutes were approved by the Ministry of the Interior in August 2011. We plan to admit new members and start our own activities in the near future.
